The passenger capacity was 860 passengers, divided into 152 in the cabin category cabin class, 307 in tourist class and 401 in 3rd class.
Oslofjord was Amerikalinjen's (America Line's) first newbuilding in 20 years when she was delivered to NAL in May 1938. At the outbreak of war in 1940, the ship was in New York and was incorporated into the Nortraship fleet. After being converted into a troop transport ship, Oslofjord hit a mine at the mouth of the River Tyne in England on 1 December 1940. On 8 December the hull began to crack approximately midway between the funnels, and the following day the vessel was lost. The shipwreck is today a popular object for recreational divers where it lies at a depth of 15 meters.
